University administrations, faculty associations, unions and other staff groups at University of Toronto, University of Guelph and Queen’s University have been working diligently to develop a new pension plan that would cover employees at all three universities.
In 2019, members of the pension plans at University of Toronto, University of Guelph and Queen’s University voted to join a new multi-employer, jointly-sponsored pension plan called The University Pension Plan.
A defined benefit plan, it was legally established January 1 2020 and as of July 1 2021, staff will start earning pensionable service under the new plan. The new plan will also take over administration of paying pensions for our members who have already retired.
The Plan is governed by a Joint Sponsor Committee made up of employer and employee-appointed representatives and a Board of Trustees with employer and employee-appointed representatives.
