Are you a strong advocate for yourself and your fellow USW members? Have you ever considered being a part of your Local’s contract negotiations? Do you know of another member you think would be a good fit for your Local’s negotiating committee?
The current Staff-Appointed collective agreement will expire June 30, 2020 and negotiations for your new collective agreement will occur next year. Your Local needs your involvement, ideas, and support to help us get the best collective agreement possible!
Our negotiating committee is democratically elected and we will be accepting nominations for positions on the committee during the General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, or in writing in advance via a nomination form (see below). The election will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, with advance polls on November 6, 2019.
In order to stand for election, you need to be a member in good standing and you must be nominated by another member in good standing either at the general membership meeting on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, or in writing via a nomination form (available here) by Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at 5:00 pm.
Written nominations can be emailed to Mark Austin (USW 1998 Recording Secretary) or delivered via fax at (416) 506-0640 or hard copy, hand delivery, courier, Canada Post or campus mail to USW Local 1998, Recording Secretary, 25 Cecil St., Suite 201, Toronto, ON, M5T 1N1. A nominee must accept their nomination in person at the meeting or provide written acceptance to the Local’s Recording Secretary Mark Austin by Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 5:00 pm.
There are twelve positions available on the Staff-Appointed Negotiating Committee. Ten positions are from the St. George campus, one position from the Mississauga campus and one from the Scarborough campus.
*Please note that the requirement of nominees attending at least one third of the local meetings over the past 24 months is applicable for Executive and Grievance Officer positions but does not apply to negotiating committees.
